Baltimore Green Space is a strong voice for the community-managed open spaces and forest patches that improve our city – socially, environmentally, and economically.
We work with City government and other nonprofits to ensure that policies support the residents who care for our city’s forests and green spaces.
Here are some of our accomplishments:
- Baltimore Green Space worked with Baltimore City government to develop a City policy that favors the preservation of neighborhoods’ urban oases. You can download the booklet that the City uses to implement this policy. This flow chart provides an overview of the process.
- Worked with the Office of Sustainability and the Parks & People Foundation to create the Garden Irrigation Fund.
- Provide lists of lots in community use to Baltimore City.
- Published Baltimore’s Forest Patches which showed that one-fifth of the city’s tree canopy is in forest patches outside parks. The paper also includes 14 strategies to improve and preserve Baltimore’s forest patches.
